Alan learned to think visually at an early age. Growing up in the house designed by his father, surrounded by his mother's paintings and brother's product design, the making and production of art came naturally to the boy. An early fascination with printing, paper ephemera, and combinations of text and imagery led Alan to develop his collage style. He learned to identify the fundamental elements of any design from his long career in graphics. Alan has then translated this knowledge into the subjects he paints, visualizing its essential form. In this approach, Alan believes he becomes more fully aware of the process and hopes that his personal appreciation and interpretation of any subject stimulates a new awareness in those who view the final product.
